Here’s the exact roadmap for creating your own Skool community:
The 5-Steps to Using The Skool Niche Roadmap
There are 5 steps to my Skool Niche Roadmap:
Step 1: Brainstorm Passion and Skills
Step 2: Validate Demand & Monetization
Step 3: Use the “Apple Strategy”
Step 4: Spot the Emotional Trigger
Step 5: Create an irresistible offer
💡 My main expertise is in coding working as a freelancer making $10k/month and I'm passionate about Skool communities and building them so I'll use this as an example but it can be anything, it helps to have a high paying skill but is not mandatory, don't hold back.
Step 1: Brainstorm
Passion and Skills

📝 Write down answers to these:
- 👍 What topics or hobbies excite you?
- 👍 What skills do you excel at?
- 👍 What problems have you solved that others might face too?
💡 Pro Tip: Use ChatGPT to expand your list. Ask, “What are 10 niche ideas combining [your skill] and [your passion]?”. You can use the Free ChatGPT version but the paid one is far more advanced and does a better job.

💡 As you write down niches and you start feeling excited/motivated about a certain niche, and you get lots of ideas for content, that means you're on the right track!
Write down the ones that excite and spark lots of ideas in your head.
Don't hold back, this is about quantity, train your brain to come up with ideas and combine them, re-enter the prompt and generate ideas when you can't think of anything else anymore.
My list would look something like this, with the one that excites me the most at the top:
- Freelancer Upskilling Skool Community
- AI-Powered Moderation Tools for Skool
- Skool SEO & Growth Automation
- Automated Course Delivery for Skool Communities
I really like the first one, a community helping software engineers become freelancers, work remotely and help them win $10k/month.
I can really see the potential in it.
Now that I've got my genius idea is time for...
Step 2: Validate Demand & Monetization

Ideas are not enough, just having a great idea doesn't create a business.
Having customers, people that actually want to join your community because it sparks a feeling of excitement in them just the way it does in you, that are the seeds of a business.
💡 Remember, this is the community business model, not the guru business model, is always about them, not about you, so you need to find if your target audience exists and would be interested in such a community.
So the next step is to validate our idea.
📊 Use AI or tools like Google Trends to analyze:
- Search Volume: Are people looking for this topic? Use Google Trends or YouTube to research the topic
On a simple search I found some youtube channels with thousand of views so there seems to be interest in the subject:

- Competitors: What communities already exist? Can you add a unique twist?
I've also found some successful communities by searching in the Skool Discovery section focusing on the subject of freelancing so there is surely something to it:

💡 The signs are promising, there seems to be some competitors for my niche which proves the idea, but not too many competitors so that there is an oversupply with a crowded market
🔍 Check forums, Skool communities, Reddit and social media to confirm:
- Are people asking questions about your niche?
- Can you create unique solutions?
💡 Shortcut: AI can compare competition for you! Prompt it: “What are underserved niches in [industry] with high demand and low competition?”

Step 3: Use the “Apple Strategy”

The biggest mistake people make in niche selection is trying to create something entirely new. But here’s the truth: the market rewards those who refine, not those who invent.
It Works for Apple, Why Not You?
Apple wasn’t the first to make smartphones, AI tools, or VR headsets. Instead, they took what worked and made it better. From the iPhone to Vision Pro, Apple excels by focusing on quality and user experience—not being the first mover.
Here are the steps to apply the "Apple Strategy"
- 👍 Core Principle: Don’t reinvent the wheel—refine what already works and make it better.
- 👍 Market Research:
- Study successful competitors and communities (e.g., Upwork, Toptal).
- Analyze popular freelancing courses and content targeting developers.
- Identify gaps, like specific challenges for developers earning $10k/month.
- 👍 Find the Gap:
- Look for unmet needs (e.g., advanced freelancing strategies, pricing guidance, or client management tips).
- Target an underserved segment with a clear promise.
- 👍 Differentiate with Quality:
- Offer hands-on mentorship, live Q&A, and community interaction via Skool.
- Gamify learning for better retention and engagement.
By studying the different articles, communities and social media on this subject I found one common misconception, that you need a portfolio in order to become a freelancer as a software developer.

This is great for me, because this assumption is FALSE!
I don't have a portfolio and I'm able to have stable contracts which go on for years so I can teach them how to do just that.
That's great because the majority of software developers don't have a portfolio because they worked for companies and the software produced there is the property of that company.
You cannot just showcase it to potential clients because there are NDA's in place.
Another major misconception is that you can only do freelancing on overcrowded platforms like Upwork where the competition is fears and contracts usually short term and little paid.
I can use these major pain points which stops software developers from going into freelancing in the next step...
Step 4: Spot the Emotional Trigger

🌟 People buy solutions, not features. Identify the biggest problem or strongest desire in your niche.
💡 AI Prompt: “What emotional pain points do [your audience] face when trying to achieve [goal]?”

Step 5: Create an irresistible offer

Now that you've got:
- You niche idea based on your skills and passion
- Studied the market and validated that people are actually searching for the problem your are trying to solve
- Researched competition and identified gaps in their offers
- Found the pain points of your target audience
Is time to put all together and design your irresistible offer.
You need to be specific with the end result of your offer that the members of your community will have after joining.
- ❌ Don't do: Become a software developer freelancer and win more money.
- ✅ Do: Become a freelancer and make $10k/month remotely as a software engineer with 3+ years of exp, without owning a portfolio or prior freelancing experience in a community of supportive programmers in reach of the same goal, with my 90 Day Software Freelancing Blueprint. Join Now!
👉 Always be specific with the end result of your offer, ask yourself, what's the state in which my customer will be after going through my community steps?
👉 Add a specific timeframe in which they will get that highly desirable end result, the faster the better but be realistic.
👉 Emphasize on the pain points of your target audience and how you are able to completely eliminate them, the easier is for the to reach their desirable end result, the better.
In the end answer these questions as honestly as you can:
- What unique value can you bring to this niche?
- How can you offer something fresh and distinct?
- Can you position your community as an exciting and valuable choice?
- Do you have a strategy to outperform the competition?
- Can you rise to become the top leader in this space?
💡 If you can answer these questions with a 'Yes', great, you've got yourself an amazing niche and successfully navigated the Skool Niche Roadmap!
If not, go back to Step 1 and redo the process, there is for sure a niche for you out there in which you are better than some people, you just need to find it!
Conclusion
Here’s how you use The Skool Niche Roadmap to uncover a high-demand, low-supply, and monetizable Skool niche.
I came across a great quote the other day:
“It’s not how big your community is; it’s how much your community members care.”

The key to community — "10 True Regulars"
To build a successful community, you don't need 1,000 fans.
You need 10 true regulars.
(Credit to David Spinks for this idea... It's brilliant).
This may contradict what most people imagine about communities — spaces with hundreds or thousands of people actively contributing and forming relationships where everyone is engaged and involved.
In reality, only a small percentage of your members will actively participate.
You don't need a lot of active members to get conversations flowing; you only need t...
